MTN Nigeria's latest deal to strengthen network
In what is described as a new phase of development for its operation in Nigeria, mobile network operator MTN has signed a managed services contract this week with telecommunication service providers Ericsson and Huawei.
Terms of the contract were covered in a media report published by This Day, according to which Ericsson and Huawei will jointly handle the management, optimisation and field maintenance of MTN’s network infrastructure nationally.
At the same time MTN will retain ownership and control over its network assets, and the responsibility for the design, planning and procurement of equipment will still reside with the mobile operator.
MTN Nigeria CEO, Michael Ikpoki, is quoted as saying, “This engagement with Ericsson and Huawei is a logical step forward in the course of the steady evolution of the telecommunications industry. It is a deal that speaks to our desire to add tangible value to the overall customer experience on our network, as we yield the routine management and maintenance of our infrastructure to these global players, to enable us focus on meeting and exceeding the expectations of our customers.”
